Studies on the performance and growth of various short-day onion varieties (Allium cepa L.) in the Rhodesian lowveld in relation to date of sowing. 1. Yield and quality analysis

Five short-day onion varieties were sown at monthly intervals from February to June in order to study bulbing under high-temperature conditions and to determine optimum sowing dates in relation to yield and quality. Owing to the high temperatures, premature and rapid bulb formation took place early in the growing season of crops sown in February and June. Daylength had no apparent effect on bulbing.
