Studies on the reduction of soil compaction in orchards by biological methods

With a reduction of light intensity to 40-50% of full light the top growth of several green manure plants was reduced to 40 % and root growth to 50%. The growth of plants on soils compacted by the application of pressure was reduced to one third. When both shade and soil compaction were imposed, top growth was reduced to 18% and root growth to 15%.
