The following is substantially the authors' summary of this account of the results of laboratory tests in Kerala in 1966 on the effect of five insecticides applied to the soil against the larvae of Dacus cucurbitae Coq., the most destructive pest of cucurbits in India. Aldrin and heptachlor were highly effective against larvae that had dropped to the soil for pupation and were much superior to DDT, BHC and carbaryl (Sevin).
