Studies on the seed microflora of American Cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) and local Cotton (G. arboreum L.) under Punjab and Haryana conditions

The identified micro-organisms from 6 cotton vars. belonged to Alternaria, Asper-gillus, Cladosporium, Curvularia, Fusarium, Helminthosporium, Mucor, Penicillium, Rhizopus and Xanthomonas. Of chemicals tested as seed dips to remove the pathogens and improve germination 0.2% ceresan (wet) and 0.2% agallol 3 were the most effective. Hot water treatment was not satisfactory.
