Study on attraction in the Scolytidae: sexual attraction in Carphoborus minimus, a typical polygamous scolytid

Study on attraction in the Scolytidae: sexual attraction in Carphoborus minimus, a typical polygamous scolytid

C. R. Acad. Sci., Paris. 262D: 24, 2492-5

In field studies on Pinus brutia, the number of females attracted to each ranged from 0 to 7; 482 males were accompanied by 3 females each, 246 by 4 and 112 by 5. Mating chambers removed and transferred empty to unattacked branches remained attractive to females for up to 3 days, but the sawdust removed from a freshly excavated mating chamber was only very weakly attractive.
