Sugar uptake by the grape berry: A note on the absorption pathway



Planta 85(2): 111-117



Tritium-labelled glucose fed to detached berries just after veraison (the beginning of ripening) through the pedicel was found to be distributed throughout the berry in 1 hour. It diffused through cortical cells to the vascular tissue of the pedicel, and then along this tissue into the vascular bundles and walls of nearby parenchyma cells in the berry.
