Survival of the causal agents of 'early-dying disease' (Verticillium wilt) of Potatoes

Survival of the causal agents of 'early-dying disease' (Verticillium wilt) of Potatoes

Ann. appl. Biol, 63: 2, 277-288

Both V. alboatrum and V. dahliae were shown to overwinter in soil and on dried moribund stems from infected potato crops and to induce disease in a subsequent, susceptible crop, or in some weed spp. Root colonization in wheat, barley, oats, rye, and maize was observed for V. dahliae but not for V. alboatrum, but only the latter seemed capable of prolonged survival in the tubers. Thus only tubers infected with V. alboatrum produced infected plants.
