Synthetic activity and size of the cell nuclei of Phaseolus vulgaris after infection with Uromyces phaseoli typica

Synthetic activity and size of the cell nuclei of Phaseolus vulgaris after infection with Uromyces phaseoli typica

Neth. J. Plant Path, 75: 86-95. bibl. 25

Orotic acid-I4C and uridine-3H were applied to floating discs excised from the primary leaves of Phaseolus beans infected with U. phaseoli typica. The isotopes were detected not only in the nuclei of the host cells but also in those of the actively growing hyphae of the fungus. Carbon-14 accumulated as a result of DNA-dependent RNA synthesis, and was largely inhibited by pre-treatment with actinomycin D. Labelling was destroyed by treating the tissues with RNase, but not with DNase.
