Tagging the oriental fruit moth, Grapholitha molesta (Busck) with radioactive phosphorus for flight and dispersal studies

Tagging the oriental fruit moth, Grapholitha molesta (Busck) with radioactive phosphorus for flight and dispersal studies

Can. Ent, 97: 8, 810-816

The following is based largely on the auphor's abstract of this account of laboratory investigations in Canada. Large numbers of adults of Cydia (Grapholitha) molesta (Busck) were successfully labelled with radioactive phosphorus (500 or more counts per minute) by keeping them for 24-48 hours in cages provided with cotton wicks moistened with a water solution of 32P (as orthophosphoric acid) at 20 micro c. per ml. The addition of sugar to the solution did not increase its effectiveness.
