Techniques of nitrogen fertilizing of rice plants. 1. Effect of late top-dressing of nitrogen on the yield and nutrient uptake of rice plants

For 2 crops of 2 rice varieties on slate alluvial soil, latosol and sandstone shale alluvial soil, application of 100 kg/ha N after the stage of panicle primordial formation increased the grain yield by 4%; with 120 and 140 kg/ha N, the corresponding increases were 6 and 9 %. With late top-dressing the N content of the straw was low at middle stages of growth but exceeded that of the control plants during the reproductive stage.
