A field experiment was established in heavily infested soil to compare clones of the vars. Alfa, du Puits, Grimm, and Tuna (all commonly grown in S. Sweden) which had been (1) selected as resistant in the field, then further selected after growing for nearly 6 months in severely infested soil in the glasshouse under disease-favouring conditions; (2) selected as resistant in the field only; and (3) taken at random from another field, not grown in inoculated soil, and classified as susceptible.
