Continuous cultivation of rye for fodder during 4 years decreased the number of shoots of Centaurea picris/m2 from 16 to 0.2. Repeated shallow ploughing of cereal stubble for 5 years reduced the infestation to one-thirtieth. 2, 4-D and similar herbicides produced only a temporary effect on C. picris and their application is justified only in combination with other recommended control measures.
