For part 3 see Abst. 4385, Vol. 42. 4. Eight 4-week-old Friesian male calves with rumen cannulae were given chopped or pelleted dried grass to appetite. After weaning at 6 weeks, calves were subjected to alternating periods of 7 days when they either ate undisturbed (control period) or feed material was added by cannula or rumen contents were removed at rate of 20% DM of mean voluntary intake of the last 4 days of the preceding control period.
