The ecology of cacao Tirases. I. The role of wild hosts in the incidence of swollen shoot virus in West Africa

The ecology of cacao Tirases. I. The role of wild hosts in the incidence of swollen shoot virus in West Africa

Journal of Applied Ecology, Department of Forestry, Oxford University, UK. 8(2): 491-495

The distribution of the cacao swollen shoot virus is markedly discontinuous in West and Central Africa. The available data were re-examined to investigate the part played by wild hosts in the cacao infection cycle. Natural infections in Cola chlamydantha were of local importance, but this species could not be incriminated as an original host. The evidence for the view that the swollen shoot virus is African in origin was found to be equivocal.
