The effects of ioxynil [3,5-diiodo-4-hydroxybenzonitrile] on the free amino acid and protein content of the leaves of tartary buckwheat and wheat were compared 2 days after the seedlings were sprayed. Spring wheat showed little change in the overall concentration of either the soluble or protein amino acids. Tartary buckwheat, on the other hand, showed marked changes in the balance between soluble and protein amino acids.
