The effect of regular intravenous injections of oxytocin at milking time on the proportion of the yield obtained as residual milk in the ewe

After treatment for 17 days with 2 injections of 5 IU oxytocin before milking, changes in the size of milking and residual fractions following milking intervals of 4, 8, 12, 16, 20 and 24 h were investigated in 18 ewes. The experiment was in a 6 x 6 split-plot latin square design in which each treatment was repeated 4 x. Each animal was milked (i) by machine, (ii) by machine after injection of 5 IU oxytocin, (iii) by hand after 2nd injection of 5 IU oxytocin.
