In 2 men given diet with protein 40 g daily and supplements of lysine and tryptophan based on adrenocorticotropic hormone pattern, the diet alone allowed falls in N and total 17-OHCS in urine, blinker and flicker values and grip strength. Extra tryptophan increased total 17-OHCS and 17-KS and decreased flicker value and grip strength, but there was no significant change in near point of vision. Extra lysine tended to increase grip strength but had no other effect.
