Three men took for 10 or 11 days a standard diet with protein 80 g and energy 2400 kcal daily, with extra tryptophan 3.0 or lysine 4.8 g daily. Extra tryptophan increased excretion of total 17-OHCS in urine, and of 17-KS in one man. It tended to increase N in urine, flicker value and grip strength and to bring the near point closer in one man, but there was no change in blinker value in any.
