A family had 3 of 13 children with carbohydrate-sensitive hyperlipidaemia, characterized by high values for triglycerides on a low-fat, high-carbohydrate diet and a fall in triglycerides on a high-fat diet. Plasma lipids were separated by thin-layer chromatography and fatty acid composition was estimated by gas chromatography. Changes were most marked in the triglyceride fraction, less so in cholesterol esters and phospholipids.
