Bullocks 18 months old, in 4 groups of 6, grazed natural veld in the Orange Free State for a year. They had access to a phosphate lick during winter or summer or for the whole year or had no supplement. Inorganic P in plasma was below normal and plasma Ca was high in groups which did not receive supplement during a specific period. Bullocks which got P grew faster during some periods than those not given it during the same periods.
