The influence of temperature of irrigation water upon the growth of paddy rice in the warmer district. 6. Effects of day and night water-temperatures on the vegetative growth in relation to air temperature change accompanied with shifting of cultivation period

During 9 periods from Apr. to Nov., rice was grown in pots at all combinations of day and night water temperatures of 26, 30, 34 and 37 degrees C. Plant height increased linearly with increase in average air temp., the rate decreasing notably when night water temp. reached 34 degrees , and optimum values for water temp. fell as air temp. rose. When air temp. was optimum (20-26 degrees ), tillering was increased by a wide diurnal fluctuation range in water temp.
