The interpretation of long-range migrations of Spodoptera exigua Hb. (Lepidoptera : Noctuidae)

The interpretation of long-range migrations of Spodoptera exigua Hb. (Lepidoptera : Noctuidae)

J. Anim. Ecol, 39: 3, 593-598

The following is based largely on the author's summary. The data concerning the advance of a massive migration of Spodoptera exigua (Hb.) from north-east of the Caspian Sea to Fennoscandia in 1964, first published in 1965, are recapitulated. They show that across Finland, and probably also from Finland through southern Sweden and Denmark and onwards, the bulk of the migrant swarm advanced intermittently, flying only by night.
