The irrigation of flue-cured tobacco in Taiwan

The water requirement was 2.8 mm per day and 275 mm for the whole growing period (330 mm if the plant bed period is included). The most import-ant time for irrigation was from final ridging to maturity (the period of leaf expansion) when water should be applied at weekly intervals. Irrigation at early stages may suppress root growth and at late stages may suppress leaf development.
