Abstract
It was thought that actinomycin D would reduce the breakage effects of ethyl methane-sulphonate (EMS) by complexing with DNA guanine, but it did not prevent guanine alkylation and depurination in vitro by EMS. Breaks and achromatic gaps occurred in the S and M chromo-somes with EMS, and actinomycin interfered with chromosome condensation and induced localized breaks also.
