After an introductory account of the purposes and methods of operation research, the principles of systems analysis are discussed and their application to pig production is considered. The model described includes a part system supplying fodder and young piglets, an end system for slaughter and processing and a variety of possible types of fattening systems using old, reconstructed, or new industrial style buildings.
