An attempt is made to estimate critically the genetic gain of Pinus sylvestris in clonal seed-orchards in Finland. Genetic gain in height growth is estimated at 2.6-4.4% and in volume growth at 7-15%, provided that there is no pollen contamination from unknown sources outside the seed-orchard.
