The sheath nematode, Hemicycliophora arenaria, a native to California soils

The sheath nematode, Hemicycliophora arenaria, a native to California soils

Plant Db Report 50(8): 581-583

The sheath nematode, Hemicycliophora arenaria Raski, 1958, was found parasitizing and producing galls on roots of Hymenoclea salsola, a plant native to the Coachella and Imperial Valleys of California. Cuttings of this plant were collected, surface-sterilized, and rooted in the greenhouse and the soil in which they were growing was infested with H. arenaria. After 6 weeks, typical gall formation was observed on the roots of the greenhouse cuttings. It is postulated that H. arenaria is native to the lower desert regions of southern California and the H. salsola serves as a native host.
