Almost no live poultry was imported during the period under study. Imports from EEC countries rose at the expense of imports from other countries, particularly since the EEC market order on poultry meat came into force. Chickens, and broilers in particular, form the largest share of imports. The seasonal peak of imports is the fourth quarter (the pre-Christmas period) of each year when large quantities of turkeys, geese and ducks are also imported.
