The vase life of tulips

The vase life of tulips

Vakblad voor de Bloemisterij, 26: 15, 8-9

Cut tulip flowers, from a forced crop of the Apeldoorn, were kept for 2-4 hours at 2 degrees C, rolled in a thin sheet of plastic with their stalks in a 10-50mg/l solution of BA. They were then held in vases of water for several days at 20 degrees. Untreated flowers wilted but the BA treatment stiffened the stems and improved both flower and leaf colour. Later in the season (April) the beneficial effects of BA were less noticeable.
