For 46 out-patients average values were, platelet count 499, 000 per cu.mm, Hb 8.8 g per 100 ml blood and Fe 24 micro g per 100 ml serum. In 38 loss of blood had occurred, 27 being women with menorrhagia, 1 was a woman on iron-deficient diet and 1 a man with malabsorption syndrome. Corresponding means for 12 normal subjects were 242, 000 per cu. mm, 13.4 g and 113 micro g.
