In trials with wheat Heron sown on clover-improved soils at Wagga Wagga during 1961-5, grain yields decreased by 3-7% for each week's delay in sowing after the end of Apr. and grain protein content increased by 0-09-0-56% for each week's delay, depending on seasonal conditions. This increase in grain protein content was accompanied by reduced kernel size which resulted in a decrease in grain protein yield of 12-5 lb/ac for each week's delay in sowing.
