Utilization by spring wheat of nitrogen of urea and ammonium nitrate labelled with 15N and applied as late topdressings

In a 2-year field experiment on derno-podzolic soil, spraying urea or NH4NO3 at 30 kg/ha N at flowering or urea at the early milky stage onto wheat to which a basal dressing of N40P80K60 had been applied did not increase grain yield but increased the protein content of the grain. Spraying with NH4NO3 at the early milky stage decreased grain yield, but increased the protein content of the grain.
