In further studies manual transmission tests differentiated wheat spindle streak mosaic virus from wheat streak mosaic and Agropyron mosaic viruses by the typical symptoms it produced on wheat kept in a growth room at 8-12 degrees C, though not in a glasshouse at 18-25 degrees. Manual transmission from plants collected and tested in mid-June was less successful than in May. The disease was observed in 62 out of 107 fields of winter wheat (37% infection) in Ont, in May and June 1969.
