Tests with seedlings of 4 tobacco cvs. showed that V. dahliae entered intact roots and reached the vascular system in 3 days. Conidia inoculated into the roots were translocated throughout the roots, stem, and mid-ribs within 1 hr, becoming lodged progressively more on the hypocotyl region than at the stem apex.
