A survey showed that the plum varieties and clones grown for seed production in East Germany were severely infected with cherry ringspot viruses; in some varieties and clones, such as Brompton, Huttner 35/V/8 and Red Wing, all the trees were infected. Cherry necrotic ringspot virus (CNRV) was isolated from most of the infected trees.
