Abstract
Voluntary intake of feed was recorded for 8 cows in the 8th month of lactation. They were in stalls and were offered dairy concentrate, soaked sugar beet slices and chopped lucerne hay for 2.6 h. The cows took 58% more starch equivalent and 34% more digestible protein than they required. There was a linear relation between intake and milk yield, but intake did not directly influence yield.
