The compatibility of certain promising pesticides (Five organo-phosphorus insecticides viz., chlorpyriphos 20 EC (Durmet), triazophos 40 EC (hostathion), monocrotophos 36 SL (nuvacron), quinalphos 25 EC (Ekalux), profenophos 50 EC (Curacron) and a synthetic pyrethroid, lambda-cyhalothrin 5 EC (Karate)) when sprayed in combination with a common fungicide copper oxychloride (COC) 50% WP (Cuprakh50) was evaluated with the objective to study the phytotoxic effects, the extent of control of pests and diseases and to analyse the cost-benefit aspect of the application on cardamom. The results indicated that copper oxychloride was compatible physically and biologically with all the insecticides tested at recommended dose and did not cause phytotoxicity. The management of major pests and diseases was satisfactory and minor pest incidence was barest minimum. With the addition of copper oxychloride, the pH of spray fluid was found to be favourable to cardamom plants, even with insecticides like monocrotophos, which may develop acidic condition after prolonged storage. The reduction in the man-power utilization when copper oxychloride was mixed and sprayed with the insecticides tested were also discussed.
