The area under tea in the state of Himachal Pradesh (HP) is constant and there is little scope to increase it further. Most of the plantations are in abandoned stage and therefore, there is need to increase productivity of tea by rejuvenation, introducing new varieties on additional land and also by replacing the existing plantations. The net returns of rejuvenated tea gardens became positive during 2nd year of their maintenance. Per cent return on capital investment was 4.98.
