Effects of different N application rates on grain yield and nitrogen uptake and utilization by different rice cultivars

In a field experiment carried out in Nanjing in 2004, two rice cultivars were supplied with urea at 0, 60, 120, 180, 240, 300 and 360 kg N/ha. The two cultivars, ELIO and 4007, were widely different in N uptake and N use efficiency and were similar in agronomic traits. Grain yield of 4007, which responded well to N application, was significantly higher than that of ELIO at all N rates.
