Groundwater quality assessment at a location between a sugar factory and a river basin in Cauvery Delta Region

Groundwater samples from five different locations (Thugili, Vellalar, Old Street, West Street and river bed) in and around Thirukodikaval, Thanjavur District, Tamil Nadu, India, were obtained, analysed for several physical and chemical parameters, and compared with the WHO and Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board standards. The colour, BOD, and total iron (17.5 ppm) values exceeded the standard values. The reasons for variations from the standard values were predicted and remedial measures are proposed.
