New selecting method of polyphenol oxidase pigmentation to improve wheat breeding process for pre-harvest sprouting resistance

Journal of Agricultural Biotechnology 15(3): 482-488

To search new biochemical labels related to pre-harvest sprouting (PHS) resistance for improving breeding efficiency, polyphenol oxidase (PPO) activities and sprouting rates of 24 different wheat (Triticum aestivum) cultivars or lines possessing different PHS resistance were measured using catechol as reaction substrate, and the PHS resistance of different color grade grains of 18 F<sub>2</sub> generation materials derived from different cross combinations was determined.
