Seed coat micro sculpturing of weed species of scrophulariaceae

Advances in Plant Sciences 20(1): 299-303

Bacopa monnieri, Striga angustifolia, Sopubia delphinifolia & Stemodia viscosa are the common weed species belongs to scrophulariaccae. The seeds of all the four weed species were collected from agriculture fields. The exomorphological features viz., surface ornamentation of seed coat, seed shapes, colour, hilum shape and position etc., were examined under light and scanning electron microscope. The seeds of four species were described, illustrated and compared. All the micromorphological characters proved to be stable and dependable. A key to genera considered in this work is provided using exclusively seed characters, which will be useful for the accurate identification of weed seeds.
