The emergence of autonomous female migration from the rural areas to the urban areas in Burkina Faso?

The emergence of autonomous female migration from the rural areas to the urban areas in Burkina Faso?

African Population Studies 20(2): 101-123

Data from a national survey held in 2000 were used to explore migration from rural women (15 to 35 year old) to urban areas (more than 10 000 inhabitants) since 1975. Migration rates increased from 1.9% in 1975-79 to 4.1% in 1995-99. Single women represented only 17% of total migrating rural women. Approximately 50% of women migrate during their first month of marriage.
