Transstadial (nymph-to-adult) infection of Anaplasma marginale in Dermacentor andersoni Stiles

Transstadial (nymph-to-adult) infection of Anaplasma marginale in Dermacentor andersoni Stiles

Journal of Medical Entomology 8(5): 519-521

Both sexes of ticks were capable of nymph-to-adult transmission of Anaplasma marginale. Also, nymph-to-adult transmission occurred when the ticks were maintained during the entire period of moulting at temperatures ranging from 21.1 to 35 deg C during the day and from 15.5 to 26.5 deg C during the night. Repeated artificial passage of an A. marginale isolate through its bovine host may result in the loss of transmissibility by arthropod vectors.
