, : Gastrolith study of the Lourinhasaurus dinosaur in the Portuguese Upper Jurassic. Comunicacoes do Instituto Geologico e Mineiro 84(1): A87-A90

This note reports the discovery and the study of more than a hundred sauropod dinosaur's gastroliths, associated with osteologic remains, in the occidental coastal region of the Iberian Peninsula. The gastrolith's concept is reviewed and several stratigraphical, sedimentologic and anatomic parameters for its study, are presented. Most of the gastroliths were concentrated near the anterior dorsal and posterior cervical vertebrae of the Lourinhasaurus specimen, corresponding probably to an original gastroliths accumulation in the animal's crop. The gastroliths have different shapes, sizes and brightnesses but they are well polished. Mostly of them are made of quartz.
