Maintenance energy requirements and body and gain composition of adults beef cows from three genetic groups

This study was aimed at estimating the maintenance requirements of net energy (NEm) and metabolizable energy (MEm) as well as the changes in body and gain composition of confined, adult, non-pregnant and non-lactating beef cows. 36 six cows were used: 12 Nelore (NEL); 12 F1 Brown Swiss-Nelore (BSN); and 12 F1 Red Angus-Nelore (RAN). The comparative slaughter method was utilized to estimate the changes in animal body chemical composition during the experimental period.
