Discussion on the maximum magnitude prediction method for reservoir-induced earthquakes

Chang Baoqi; Liang Jibin

Huanan Dizhen = South China Seismological Journal 14(1): 77-82

1994

Since the authors put forward the method which uses the reservoir comprehensive affecting parameter "E" to predict the maximum magnitude, M, of reservoir-induced earthquake, some persons use the method to predict M of newly built reservoirs, or predict earthquake tendency of a reservoir where earthquake occurred, or use it to research the other problems of reservoir-induced earthquake. In order to enable readers to understand further the substance of this method, the authors explain the physical meaning of the regression variables and their randomness, discuss the regression approach, compare the results of several regression approaches, and propose the preliminary opinion to correct the predicted value of M.
