Ground motion simulation in the Kobe area during the 1995 Hyogoken-Nanbu earthquake

We simulated strong ground motions in the near-source area during the 1995 Hyogoken-Nanbu (Kobe) earthquake based on the source and underground structure models using 3D-FDM. For source model, we used Sekiguchi et al. (1998) model distributed by JWG-ESG committee. For underground structure modeling, we basically used the distributed information. Our modeling is limited from 0.1 to 1.0 Hz with lowest S-wave velocity of 0.6 km/s for the superficial layer. We calculated three-component velocity ground motions at six target sites of the SS Kobe line. Moreover, we discussed the effects of heterogeneous source on ground motions in the near-source area.
