Cites examples of streams occupying axial zones of synclines in the folded Paleozoic terrain of Belgium, illustrating different modes of origin of drainage patterns which were not directly subject to active tectonic control. In cases of superimposed systems recurrent folding may indirectly influence the position of synclinal rivers, but directly influences the position of only a very few.
