Palaeomagnetic and structural data suggest that the Longzhuagou Group should be divided into 2 series of sedimentary rocks: Shangyunshan Formation and Kaibei Formation, both are predominantly marine. They were possibly formed at low latitude (15.1-23 N) and close relatively to the Nadanhada terrane. In contrast the predominantly coal-bearing Peide and Zhushan formations were formed at high latitude (52.1-57.8N) and close relatively to the Jixi Group, which is the cover of Jiamusi terrane. During amalgamation of the terranes, the two kinds of strata were interlayered with each other structurally.
